The History of Frank Brown

Frank Brown was founded on the principle of creating the tools needed for man to fly and there have been many milestones that led to the success it is today. As a family firm with a significant heritage, our commitment runs deep – we are here for the long-term.
1966
"THE BEGINNING"

'Frank Brown and Son Ltd' is founded by Clive & Frank Brown on 23rd August 1966

1970s
“THE FIRST STEPS”

A strategic focus on aviation engineering was utilised in 1971, beginning with British Airways (then known as BEA and BOAC), Courtline, Monarch, and Britannia. In 1978, Frank Brown relocates to their new premises at Wingate road. The following year, Frank hands over the reigns to Clive.

1980s
“MANUFACTURING SAFRAN”

In 1984, Frank Brown becomes the licensed manufacturer for Safran - a French aircraft engine, rocket engine, and aerospace company. The following year, Helen Brown joins the team.

1990s
“MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS”

In 1990 Frank Brown acquired ‘Stepfast’ and ‘Skylux’ - special purpose jacks from Brenco Engineering Ltd. They also achieve ISO-quality standards. The following year, they expand into a second premises in Wingate road with Helen Brown being appointed Director.

2000-Present
“WHERE WE ARE NOW”

In 2017, Frank Brown achieved ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. A few years later, in 2020/21 a new Managing Director and leadership team is appointed. This is followed by a business rebrand and new Enterprise Resource Planning.

THE FUTURE
“FURTHER EXPANSION”

In 2022, Frank Brown hopes to have completed their relocation to a new premises to further expand on their ever-growing business.
